COMIC CARTOON CHARACTERS CREATED BY ANTOINE BOMON
BABYDOLL AND THE PACIFIER BABIES
Antoine Bomon created his cartoon character Babydoll in the year 1988. It was the first as such recognizable “test tube baby” in cartoon history. The figure was initially created for an adult readership. In the 1990s and early 2000s, more than 500 short cartoons appeared in several Flemish and Dutch weekly and monthly magazines, based on funny, sarcastic and romantic quotes from world and popular literature. When it became clear that children also liked the character, Babydoll also appeared in children's stories and was joined by other “pacifier babies". Antoine Bomon even designed and built an itinerant amusement park around Babydoll, which brightened up numerous events in Flanders.
